About

A Longer-Term Perspective

As I continue into my 8th decade, I have an increasing, adventurous curiosity about my life, the lives of others, and what drives people's behavior.

Beyond our daily lived experience, some people may benefit from the therapeutically guided use of non-ordinary states of consciousness. This is one reason I continue training in hypnosis and trance work, and Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAP).

In May 2025, I traveled to the Amazon jungle in Peru to work with the indigenous Shipibo healers and staff at the Temple of the Way of Light. My personal work at the Temple was one of the most profoundly difficult, magical, and rewarding experiences of my life.

All of my life experience, clinical training, and education led me to the realization that the therapeutic integration of altered states of consciousness is absolutely essential to the overall healing process. Without this integration, there's a risk of what might be called psychedelic bypassing — the illusion of transcendence without doing the personal work. This integration work is highly rewarding, not only for myself, but for those I work with.

Watch an interview I did to support the Temple (note: this reflects my personal experience, not a clinical endorsement).
